LAURA GARCIA KARRAS

MO.CO. Panacée, Montpellier, France
October 26th - January 12th 2025

Artist

In autumn, MO.CO. Panacée welcomes French artist Laura Garcia-Karras for her first solo exhibition in a public institution. To prepare for this exhibition, MO.CO. Montpellier Contemporain invited her to spend four months in residence, allowing her to create a new body of work and immerse herself in the exhibition spaces.

Beyond an initial formal interpretation, it is the affective approach that emerges most prominently in the work of Laura Garcia-Karras, where gesture takes precedence. The artist focuses on a single medium: paint, which she stretches, deconstructs, and sculpts, questioning its materiality. In depicting elements of nature, mainly flowers, she offers different levels of interpretation. In her canvases, she goes beyond their poetic language, invoking their symbolism of fragility and eternity, and transcending their sensual and carnal aspects. This exhibition presents an opportunity for the artist to explore her medium in new ways, exploding and consuming the motifs to reveal their essence. Laura Garcia-Karras invites us on a fiery journey from gardens to the abyss.
