Gong Jian jongle dans son travail entre divers médias, de la peinture à l’installation. Reconnu pour sa résistance au centrisme de Beijing via son travail dans la périphérie artistique de Wuhan, il s’est révélé être l’un des artistes les plus intéressants de sa génération. Toujours prêt à tracer sa propre voie en termes de développement stylistique et d’intervention sociale, Gong Jian travaille dans un domaine distinct de ses pairs et les résultats sont fascinants.
Récemment, il s’est orienté vers des expériences théoriques avec des discours de profondeur et d’authenticité, examinant la relation entre style et contenu. Tout au long de sa carrière, l’artiste s’est concentré sur le concept de l’intervention, tant dans l’espace public que dans l’histoire de l’art. Ses plus récentes peintures à l’huile capturent le dynamisme et l’intérêt visuel de ses œuvres colorées antérieures tout en conservant le caractère académique de son œuvre récente riche en concepts.
Gong Jian est né en 1978 à Jingzhou dans la province de Hubei (Chine). Diplômé de l’Institut des Beaux-Arts de Hubai en 2001, il vit et travaille désormais à Wuhan (Chine).
