Through the medium of painting, Mathilde Lestiboudois represents empty interior spaces. Intermingling architectural fragments and geometric forms, she questions space and its temporal dimension. In this way, she constructs non-places, mental spaces, which oscillate between reality and imagination, between figuration and abstraction. As if these places were frozen in a floating and uncertain temporality, a feeling of expectation emanates from her paintings.
In her work process, Mathilde Lestiboudois establishes a back and forth between the figurative space and the abstract geometric space of the composition. Everyday objects come to life, worry and surprise through the arrangements that the artist imposes on them; pure stagings with clean lines that invite us to the side of the symbol and the interstice, to the discovery of a certain strangeness where emptiness fills the space, and where the viewer finds himself caught up in the perspectives that, at the same time, guide and mislead him.
Mathilde Lestiboudois graduated from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, where she followed Jean-Michel Alberola in his studio. She also studied at the Universitäte der Kunst, Berlin in 2016.
